Using Digital Media in 2023

Our lives today as young people, with a computer in our back pocket, is completely different to what our parents had at our age. My mom got her first phone when she was 16 years old, while I got mine at 10 years old. We didn’t have a computer in our house until I started school. Ever since, we’ve had multiple phones, computers, iPads, gaming consoles, smart TVs and more. My parents worked really hard to get my siblings and I all that we needed and wanted. I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have some sort of technology. Digital media is a vital part of my life. It fits right into my daily routine. Sometimes, I don’t know what I would do without it.

I’ll usually wake up every day at around 6:30-7:00am. The first thing I do is grab my phone. I’ll check my Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok and even Pinterest. I use multiple forms of digital media for different things. I use Snapchat to communicate with my friends through funny pictures and videos. I use twitter to keep up on current events. I enjoy using Pinterest for inspiration. Every time something pops up in my life or something that I need to plan, I make a Pinterest board for it. I’ve recently just started to use Instagram to post my life and experiences. I didn’t use it for the longest time because I was scared about negative comments towards my appearance. The pandemic was hard for everyone and a lot of people turned toward social media so they would feel alone. For me, I caused me to step away since there was so many people on it constantly. However, through meeting new friends this past year, it has given me the confidence to post on social media again.

Some others digital media platforms I use are YouTube, Spotify, and LinkedIn. I use YouTube and Spotify to listen to a lot of podcasts. I listen to a wide range of different podcasts to funny dating stories to inspiration ones. I use LinkedIn to connect with people that are involved in the field that I want to work in one day.

Digital media is more than just social media platforms. I’ve seen many companies and influencers capitalize on using emailing, texting and live streaming tactics to differentiate themselves from others. I receive emails and texts from subscriptions I’ve signed up for. For a while I was really into mystery boxes for makeup, clothes and jewelry. I didn’t think I would ever do it again because for a while it was wasting my money since I wasn’t working. The constant emails with coupon codes and free product offers are very tempting and is a tactic that I’ve seen a lot of companies use. Digital media is an ever growing and ever-changing phenomena and we’re all evolving with it.

P.s. This picture is when I went to Las Vegas for the Life is Beautiful Music Festival.
